Fee Waivers

The College Board and the ACT provide fee waivers for students with demonstrated financial need. Students whose families meet certain financial guidelines are also eligible for a limited number of college application fee waivers. If the cost of college admissions testing and application fees will be an obstacle, please contact your school counselor in order to explore eligibility for these waivers.

College-Specific Application Policies

Because policies and practices differ from school to school, applicants should thoroughly familiarize themselves with the policies of the colleges/universities to which they plan to apply. The admissions link on the college website is the best place to find this information.

If a student applies to a college that does not use the Common Application, they will need to ask their counselor to mail out transcripts and recommendations by completing a Transcript Request form (available in the Counseling Office) and submitting it to their counselor.

A Common Application e-mail request and/or a transcript request form trigger the preparation and sending of school documents. It is each student’s responsibility to fill out and deliver a Transcript Request form to their respective school counselor in advance of application deadlines (two weeks is preferred). Students are also asked to keep their school counselor updated as to the status of their college applications.

Scholarship Opportunities

The School Counseling department at Sturgis maintains a listing of scholarship opportunities. We continue to add scholarship opportunities as they are brought to our attention by local sponsors (usually through mid-May). Seniors and their parents are encouraged to browse the site on a regular basis: each scholarship is unique, so you never know when one “tailored to you" might appear.
